Dear Marion & Rhian I first knew John when we both worked at the Land Registry in Harrow. I'd always seen him around there before we came to work on the same team. I'd been sitting opposite him for a few years then just before the Registry closed we sat next to each other. I could not wish for a better work colleague. It's been said in other tributes that he was a gentle man and a gentleman. This was so true of him. He was always equable and good natured. In the words of corporal Jones "dont panic" and I never saw John overeact. We used to talk football, art and sometimes chess, sometimes we did some work, Please don't tell Frank, Marion! One day we we were talking about holidays. John said he was looking for somewhere quiet to stay with his family. I said I had spent sometime at a hotel in Eastbourne with my dad. So on my recommendation he spent a few holidays at The New Wilmington which he enjoyed with his family. I had so many visits to art galleries and museums with John over the years that I have lost count of the number. Visiting the V&A I used to rely on him to find our way around, since it's an easy place to get lost and he'd been there more times than me, but then he used to get lost as well! We always took a tea break on our visits and caught up with our news. We both liked the social side of our artistic trips. I am so pleased to have known John and my heart goes out to you both at this time. Your Faith will be your strength. I send you both my love. Dan
