Celebrating St David's day 2021

2021 March 01

We had 2 bunches of daffodils up for Monday and I read aloud to John an extract from a book by Aled Jones where he talked about St David; in his last sermon, David said to his followers 'Be joyful and keep your faith and your creed. Do the little things that you have seen me do and heard about'. Apparently 'Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd' is still a well-known phrase in Wales, but John didn't seem familiar with it! Rhian and I ate Welsh cakes and we talked about family in Wales, remembering our visits and nain's tatws! (translated = 'Grandma's potatoes' - really yummy). I had intended to make some menyn melys (look it up!) in the evening using a recipe John's Aunt Meiriona had given me, but it was a particularly busy day, so we'll have it at a later date along with bara brith and remember happier times.
