On a long coach journey, the trip manager tried to keep us entertained by setting a general knowledge quiz. I knew John would do well on the history, geography & art questions, but what especially impressed me was his encyclopedic knowledge of movies. He answered almost all the questions about who starred in, directed, wrote the screenplay, or on what novel the film was based, that he beat a full coachload of fellow travelers. A plastic barrel of beer was the prize for the winner!
